Canva Tips

Designed in Canva? You’re in the right place. Canva is a great design tool — and with a few quick checks, your file will print clean, sharp, and exactly how you expect.

Step 1: Choose Your Template

Start by opening Canva and selecting a template that matches your print project. Your canvas size is representative of the actual size of your project. For example, if you need a 24"x18" yard sign, use that size to create your design. This will help ensure that the design comes out clear and exactly how you want everything spaced when we print it for you.

Step 2: Customize Your Design

Edit the template by adding your text, images, and branding elements. Use Canva's drag-and-drop editor to adjust colors, fonts, and layouts. Make sure all text is clear and readable, and use high-quality images for the best print results. Remember to maintain proper spacing and margins. When you adjust the size, Canva will show you exactly how large your design is on the canvas.

Step 3: Set Up Print Settings for PDF or SVG File

Before downloading, ensure your design is set to the correct dimensions and color mode. Click Share then Download and select "PDF Print" in the File type dropdown box. Click the "Crop marks and bleed" and "Flatten PDF" boxes. Select CMYK color profile for professional printing. Check that bleeds are properly configured (usually 0.125 inches) to prevent white borders. Verify all elements are within the safe zone. You can now download the file and send it to us or upload it to our Design Portal. Sometimes, you may only have a PNG file to work with, if that is the case, go to Step 4 to see the download format for that file format.

Step 4: Download and Print

PNG files can be just as good as a vector file such as PDF, SVG, EPS, or AI file. Saving a PNG you created at 300DPI will get you high quality print results depending on the size of the canvas and the type of print you need. For example, a tee-shirt print can look absolutely great with a 300DPI PNG file. For things such as yard signs or banners, you will be standing farther away from them so you can get away with a smaller file size and use 96DPI.
